Although I am still doing gas and wood firings, I have begun focusing on the glazes that can be achieved through electric firings. I have been using a 54 cubic foot downdraft Gas/Wood conversion kiln owned by Jeff Brown and the NH potters guild of which I am a member.
I plan to continue firing in these methods however having the ability to test and fire at home in my electric kiln allows me to produce in a more effective manner as well as more experimenting with glaze colors and combinations.

My most recent series of pots involves carving through an iron wash that is applied while the pots are still on the wheel. When they are leather hard I carve designs into them so when they are fired, the carved part is the color of the clay and the surrounding area is a
blackish brown color. I enjoy the effect the wash gives as well as being able to carve into the clay with my own designs and patterns. I am currently not glazing the carved areas allowing mme to experiment with unique glaze combinations at the top of the piece.

Dragon mugs have been a huge hit at all the shows! Each one has an individual look and name on the bottom of the mug. Creating these
mugs is very time consuming and while enjoyable, they have taken up a lot of studio time recently! In addition to sculpting the dragons, researching names has been interesting!

I have also begun a series of garden ornaments including fairy houses to place among the garden flowers as well as hanging bird feeders. Within the next few months I also plan to include bird houses into this series.
My favorite addition this year has been teapots! I really enjoy making them and being able to carve and glaze them with interesting things. I particularly enjoy the teapots with skulls carved into them!
